How to add Google Drive to your PC desktop

1. If you are logged in to your Google account on an internet browser, you must log out temporarily to install Google on your desktop.

2. Once you have logged out, go to drive.google.com and scroll down to the bottom of the webpage. Under the 'Downloads' column, click on 'Drive for Mac/PC.'

3. A new tab will open. Next to the 'For Individuals' banner, click on 'Download.'

4. A pop-up window will appear. Click the 'Agree and Download' button.

5. A program called 'installbackupandsync.exe' will begin downloading in your internet browser.

6. Click on the program, and it should begin installing once it has finished downloading.

7. Once the installation is complete, click 'Close' to exit the pop-up window.

8. Google Drive should now appear on your desktop. Look for a window called 'Welcome to Backup and Sync' and click on the 'Get Started' button.

9. Type in your Gmail address, click 'Next,' and then type in your Gmail password. Click 'Next' when you are finished.

10. Set your laptop's preferences for upload quality and file size. When you are finished, click 'Next.'

11. Set your Google Drive syncing preferences. You can sync the entirety of your computer to Google Drive, or select specific folders to sync. Once you are finished, click 'Start.'

After Google Drive is downloaded to your desktop, you will also see shortcuts to Drive programs such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.

Last week, Google Drive for iOS started receiving an update that brought along integration with iOS 11's new Files app. However, soon after the roll out began, several Apple users – particularly those with devices running older iOS versions – started complaining that the update isn't installing on their device, as it's reporting compatibility issue with the OS version.

It's worth highlighting that some of those affected even specifically confirmed that their device is running the same iOS version which the notification says the update is compatible with.

Those affected are also flocking the official Google Product Help forum. While most of them are describing the problem as annoying (as they can't do anything with the available update), there are others who have experimented a bit on their end to conclude that the issue is only with 32-bit Apple devices, as the update plays fine with 64-bit handsets.

We tried Googling around to see if there has been some change related to Google Drive for 32 bit iOS devices, and we stumbled upon a Reddit thread from Yesterday where the original poster clearly notes that 32-bit support has been dropped by Google.

On lookout for more proof, we found the following post on official Drive forum, where the user says the official Google support staff has confirmed that support for 32-bit version of the app has been pulled.

It's true that 32-bit devices are slowly being deprecated, but that doesn't take away the fact that there are still a large number of users using 32-bit Apple devices. Google hasn't officially said anything on this yet, although experts at the official Drive help forum are confirming that the problem has been escalated, meaning it's fair to assume that the company knows people are suffering. Here's hoping that we get to hear from Google soon.
